“Seven years ago, no one in the world of competitive scholastic chess in Kentucky had ever heard of CEC. But things are very different now! In fact, the high school chess team won its third consecutive Kentucky state chess championship team title on March 27, 2021, topping a strong runner-up showing by Louisville Seneca High School by a sizable 2.5-point margin. Seniors Liam Chesemore and Joshua Pym, and junior Caleb Kortens, led the way along with help from teammates Justin Lichtefeld, Zephan Shell, and Burton Keck. Staying in good competitive form has not been easy this year under pandemic restrictions, but everyone worked hard with the tools still available to prepare to defend our title. I am so proud of these young men for working diligently over many years to develop their God-given talents and for representing CEC honorably. This team has also developed a great comradery over the years and is fun to coach!” written by Coach Porter
