Weekly Sports Updates

It’s been part of our vision in CEC Athletics to begin sharing weekly sports updates via the blog within the Athletics section of the CEC website. We used to include more information in the weekly school announcements but as we’ve grown to 12 sport’s programs that isn’t feasible. Teachers read the announcements aloud in each class and they are emailed out along with other club and faculty announcements. That gets to be a lot to read aloud and consume digitally amongst all the other important school information.

So since we couldn’t continue to send lengthier updates through school announcements, we decided to come up with a suitable alternative that would give us a chance to recap the previous week’s highlights and look ahead to the upcoming week of sporting events.

Our hope is to be consistent with these and that could take a bit of time to get into a rhythm. We may need a little volunteer support to fill in some gaps in our process. So here goes with our first attempt — fingers crossed!

Archery

The past two weekends our CEC Archery team has kicked it into full gear. The team was already building on a great 2024-2025 campaign which boasted trips to State, Nationals and Worlds. This season Archery had a win in their first tournament at Eminence back in November. The team also won the Festival of the Flights, the largest tournament to date that we’ve hosted. The event was held at MidAmerica East and was not only a great event, but also a wonderful fundraiser. With the equipment purchases the team has invested in, they are positioned well to host future tournaments with similar or even better results.

Archery competed at Bernheim Middle School’s Annual Valentines Tournament with some of the top teams in the state! High School finished 2nd by a very short margin with a 3204 and Middle School finished 6th with a team score of 2880 ! We had 4 archers medal and 7 archers with new Personal Records !! Also we’re happy to announce both High School teams have officially qualified in bullseye and 3D , and Middle School has now qualified for both bullseye and 3D !!!

Top finishers for the weekend:

High School Girls:
3rd – Bella Nolan
4nd – Jorja Gilleo
5th – Brylee Smith

Middle School Girls:
2nd – Isabelle Gilleo

Cec Cougar Archery Team traveled to Atherton High School for The Cupid Shoot Bullseye State Qualifier this past weekend where Both Middle School and High School competed with 9 new Personal Records recorded ! High School placed 1st overall with a score of 3275 with Bella Nolan placing 2nd with a 286 and Jorja Gilleo 5th with a 279 as well several others placing just outside the top 5 ! Middle school placed 3rd overall with a score of 3044 which set a new school record !! With Elle Gilleo , Eliza Ulery , Mathen Hirst placing in the top ten !! We travel to Saint Michael’s this weekend for the final event in the River City 3D series !

Basketball

The past few weeks, Cougar Varsity girls picked up a win against Western High School while the boys team fought out a tough win down at the Brown school. All programs headed down to Evansville for our ORHC conference tournament. Teams from 12u, 14u, 16u and 18u boys and girls competed in Evansville. CEC fielded teams at every level.

Although day one was rough in the win column, teams bounced back on day 2 picking up wins in every consolation game except 1. The girls 12u, 14u and 18u teams highlighted the last day with dominant wins. The 16u boys had a late comeback win and boys varsity cruised to a win in their Saturday game after loss at the buzzer on Friday.

The basketball teams head to Butler to play the 6th region boys and girls powerhouse on Friday before Senior night on Monday against Veritas Academy from Lexington. The 16u and 18u boys and girls teams will be heading to regionals in Indy next week from Wednesday to Friday to compete with homeschool and hybrid programs from around the country.

Spring Sports

Spring sports are gearing up with practices already rolling for Tennis, Baseball and Softball, with Track and Field starting up in March.

In another big happening last week, our Winter College Signing Day took place last Wednesday. If you’d like to catch up on that event, we created a separate post to summarize our fall and winter signings here at CEC. We’ve had a lot!!
