CEC Girls Varsity Soccer traveled south for their annual trip to the NHSC Nationals in Chattanooga this past weekend.
This is the girls 3rd full season as a program, and they had their best finish yet at Nationals, bringing home the top prize in the Gold Bracket of Division 2. The team went 4-0 on the week to finish 1st overall in Division 2. They only gave up 1 goal in 4 games in a defensive masterpiece. Jewel Cockerel, Senior Goalie, not only shut down the opponents in regular matches but also had multiple saves in PK’s (penalty kicks) at the end of the semi finals and finals. Cockerel was awarded all tournament team honors.
In the four games, goals were scored by Freshman Mallory Raley, Junior Pryce Ollis, Senior Bailey Hamner, and Senior Lily Franz. Senior Jaelynn Kemper and Junior Rachel Tucker added multiple scores in PK’s as well. The team had a series of ups and downs during the regular seasons, battling a host of injuries throughout the year and navigating the birth of Coach Nathan’s first child Lois. The National Championship put a bow on a very positive season overall!
CEC girls varsity had major wins against KCD, Whitefield Academy, Shelby County, Butler, Fern Creek, LKY, River City, and Presentation. The girls also had a draw against Spencer County and lost 1 goal games to Oldham County and Male High School. Along with the Seniors mentioned above, the Cougars said goodbye to Mayson Raley, Maria Eberle, Marissa Shilling, Mana Nagase, and Sophie Hales. Coach Nathan Robertson and Assistant Coach Ashley Raley will return 15 players entering their 4th season after having a strong developmental JV program this season.
Co Cougars!
